Drugs and Alcohol

Wine is an insolent fellow, strong drink a brawler, and no one addicted to their company grows wise.
Proverbs 20:1

Who screams? Who shrieks? Who has strife? Who has anxiety? Who has wounds for nothing? Who has black eyes? Those who linger long overwine, those who engage in trials of blended wine. Look not on the winewhen it is red, when it sparkles in the glass. It goes down smoothly, but in the end it bites like a serpent, or like a poisonous adder. Your eyes behold strange sights, and your heart utters disordered thoughts; You are like one now lying in the depths of the sea, now sprawled at the top of the mast.

Proverbs 23:29-34

And do not get drunk on wine, in which lies debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalm and hymns and spiritual songs.......
Ephesians 5:18-19

These also lose their way through wine and are set wandering by strong drink; priest and prophet lose their way through strong drink and are befuddled with wine; they lose their way through tippling, and stumble in judgement.
Isaiah 28: 7

But if that wicked servant says to himself, 'My master is long delayed,' and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with drunkards, the servant's master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
Matthew 24: 48-51

COMMENTARY

Moderation in all things...an old cliche, perhaps, but as Christians, what should our stance be regarding alcohol and drugs? Obviously, we cannot condemn all drinking. Our Lord was like us in all ways except sin. The scriptures tell us that he was accused of being a drunkard. If he did not drink wine, which was the usual drink with meals in the culture of his day, then there could have been no such accusation. There are also several scriptures extolling the comforts of wine in moderation. For the alcoholic, however, healing lies only in abstinence. Among life's choices, that is the only path for the true alcoholic.

Physical health is a precious gift. Temperance decrees that we enjoy all good things in moderation, to avoid ALL excesses, whether alcohol, food, or any other thing that we are prone to abuse. The use of drugs outside of those legitimately prescribed can cause serious damage to health of mind and body.

Our bodies are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. The Lord understands us completely..nothing is hidden from him. He knows what we have done, what we are doing, and what we will do.

There is a true miracle drug...The shedding of his blood has attained for us an antidote for addiction of any kind. We have been healed. We only need claim that healing. He wants us to live this day in his rich and abundant grace. Are you addicted to alcohol or drugs? THERE IS HOPE..THERE IS HEALING..claim it now.
