COMMENTARY
It is in this first step after consecration to Jesus Christ, that most of us encounter difficulty and hindrances. We are told, that as a child of God whose eyes have been opened, to appropriate the fullness that there is in Jesus for us. BUT that this fullness only comes by faith. But that is what makes it so hard, for we may feel we really HAVE no faith...what is it? How do we get it?
Actually, faith is the simplest thing in the world..and the easiest thing to exercise. Maybe, as a new Christian, you have been looking at faith as something tangible, a "thing" you either have or don't have. Perhaps you have been praying for it, expecting to get this tangible "thing", and never having received any such "thing", you feel that you have no faith.
Actually, faith is nothing like that. It is not tangible. It is simply BELIEVING GOD. For as sight is only seeing, faith is only believing. The secret does not lie in your believing, but in the thing you believe. If you believe the truth, you are saved. Believe a lie, you are lost. Your salvation comes, not because your faith saves you, but because it connects you to Jesus Christ, who saves; and your believing is nothing but that connection.
So faith is very simple..it is nothing more nor less than just believing God when he says he either has done something for you, or will do it; and then trusting him to keep his word.
Every day, we put our trust not only in people, but in things. Machinery, technology, bus drivers, doctors and nurses, cooks, and all other sorts of paid public servants; who actually have us at their mercy, and in some cases our lives are in their hands. Everyone has done this, and is doing it continually. You could not live in society and go through your customary routine of life one single day, if you could not trust your fellow man. And yet, we continually say by our actions, if not by our words...that we cannot trust God! How is it possible that we can trust all these, that we can trust man's records, and cannot believe God's record; that we can commit our nearest and dearest to our weak and fallen fellow man, and yet be afraid to commit our spiritual interests to the Savior who laid down his life for us. Why cannot we see that in taking the position that we have no faith and cannot believe, we are not only making God a liar, but we are also showing an utter want of confidence in the Holy Spirit. He is always there. He is always waiting for us. He is always ready to help us.
Dear believer, if you have ever trusted something or someone precious to an earthly friend, please trust yourself and all your spiritual interests to the hands of your Heavenly Father, and NEVER allow yourself to doubt again.
